The future looked bleak for the series earlier this week when star Warren Kole nabbed a recurring role on FOX's upcoming serial killer thriller "The Following."
"Common Law," starring Kole and Michael Ealy, becomes one of the rare one-and-done original series on USA, which has lately been a reliable producer of cable TV hits. The last original series to only last a single season on the network was 2008's miniseries continuation "The Starter Wife" starring Debra Messing.
The "Common Law" cancellation was confirmed on Twitter by USA exec Ted Linhart, who tweeted: "I can confirm to those who have asked that we are not renewing Common Law. Thanks to all the fans who watched and expressed their support."
USA has yet to decide the fate of summer miniseries "Political Animals," which also fared poorly in the ratings, and whether or not "Fairly Legal" will return for Season 3. But the odds on either returning don't look great, and "Legal" star Sarah Shahi recently accepted a major recurring role on NBC's "Chicago Fire."
USA had better news today for fans of "Suits," "White Collar" and "Necessary Roughness," announcing January return dates for all three series.
