Salma Hayek took the stage at the Avon Communications Awards in NYC yesterday. The second annual event was held at the United Nations Headquarters, where Salma stepped up to her role as The Avon Foundation's ambassador to speak out against violence against women. Addressing the room full of activists, Salma said, "I just presented at the Academy Awards and I was not even half as nervous and scared as I am today, but also not half as excited as I am to be with you."
The actress signed on with Avon's anti-domestic-violence campaign in 2004 and has continued to flex her power with the recent launch of Chime for Change with Beyonc? Knowles. Salma and Beyonc? teamed up with Gucci for the initiative, which supports projects by women around the world. Salma's husband, Francois-Henri Pinault, who is the CEO of PPR, which owns Gucci, has rallied behind his wife to support her efforts.
