Linda Hunter, CNM, EdD, FACNM, and Linda Nanni, CNM, MS, FACNM, are among a group of 15 midwives recently honored by the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) for demonstrating outstanding professional achievement and contributions to the midwifery community. A limited number of midwives are selected for this highly coveted distinction each year and are inducted as fellows during the ACNM Annual Meeting & Exhibition, held earlier this month.

Hunter, of Pawtucket, is a member of the academic midwifery service at Women & Infants and a clinical assistant professor at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. She has received numerous clinical teaching awards from medical students and ob/gyn residents. She is currently the president of the ACNM Rhode Island Affiliate and is chair of the Certificate Maintenance Committee of the American Midwifery Certification Board. Hunter is a peer reviewer and contributing editor for the clinical rounds section of the Journal of Midwifery and Women's Health. She actively participates in the classroom and clinical education of nursing and medical students and has lectured extensively on a variety of women's health topics.

Nanni, of Providence, is in private practice with Women's Care, a member of Women & Infants' Health Care Alliance, where she is director of the midwifery service. She has been active and continues to be committed to the training of midwifery students and is currently on the teaching staff of Yale University and the Frontier School of Midwifery. She is chair of the Rhode Island Board of Midwifery and has served as an advisory to the Rhode Island Director of Health on maternal-child health issues, such as the maternity care shortage, barriers to the practice of midwives, establishment of a state-run Medicaid system for all pregnant women and families with young children, the establishment of a state-wide women's cancer screening program, and execution of the prescription privileging process for midwives.
