Traditional vs. Internet Marketing - Bloggers Network

?

?

Internet marketing really is a field of its own and does not seem to follow traditional marketing rules. The persuasive methods used to try and entice customers in retail stores or in television adverts for example, do not necessarily work online. In retail environment for instance, where customers are primed and ready to purchase the use of signals such as the association of red with discount may work, in the cyber world however, the same technique may not necessarily trigger the same reaction.

?

Pick the Right Topic

The mentality and cognitive processes of Internet users need to be tapped into and exploited. Otherwise, the advertising and/or promotional techniques used will just be a wasted effort. One needs to remember that when browsing the Internet people are not necessarily in an emotional buying state browsing for retail shopping, rather, could very well be just looking for information relevant to a certain subject.

Google?s?Zeitgeist 2010 List, shows a wide range of most searched keywords. These most searched keywords reflect what people really want, and in my opinion, a good business strategy would be to take a more comprehensive look into the list, pick a few of the topics relevant to your online business, build a short competitive analysis for each category and then integrate the least competitive into your online business to be able to?funnel the traffic to an eventual sale.

?iPad? as an example is the most searched?keyword?in the US, if you have an online store selling computer accessories for example, and just for the sake of conversation, assuming a low competition in iPad accessories market, it would then be a great idea to start selling iPad accessories in your online store. If you are a technology blogger and rely heavily on Affiliate Marketing or online ads for your revenue, then may be it is time to start blogging about iPad tips & tricks, updates, accessories, app reviews, etc.

Internet Users Short Attention Span

The time an average online user spends on webpage is measured in seconds. Online businesses need to increase their Internet users??attention span, that could be through more exciting topics, YouTube videos, Social Media interaction, addressing a specific?niche, and most importantly less distracting ads in your web site. There is nothing wrong with having a few ads on your webpage, but having too much page space solely for online ads is not only annoying to Internet users, but also distracting and could actually send the wrong message about your site.

Product reviews although takes significant time and resources to put together, they are one major source of traffic to your page, especially when done right and incorporated into Google?s search engine, conversion rate becomes significantly higher. Author Review is a great WordPress Plugin that provides eye catching Google search results.?The fact of the matter is, unless a consumer has specifically come to a site looking for a certain item, it is hard to convert traffic to sales. This is why the use of banner adverts and direct email marketing is becoming less common.

?

The older traditional direct advertising methods are being replaced with online presence marketing. Social media is a popular way of building up an online presence and engaging interest in a brand. Internet consumers despise having adverts shoved down their throats, and so businesses need to approach them more subtly. Offering indirect value and transferring informational loyalty to physical sales.
