Your iPhone or Android phone?s built-in Wi-Fi hotspot feature gives all your devices internet access on the go; you can share your mobile data connection wirelessly with up to 5 (or more) devices. It?s like traditional tethering, but instead of a one-to-one connection over USB, your phone acts like a wireless access point for all your other wireless devices to go online, using your cell phone data plan.
I?ve posted before how to turn the Wi-Fi hotspot feature on?for Android and iPhone.
Most carriers, however, charge a monthly fee for you to use this Wi-Fi hotspot feature?on top of the mobile data plan you?re already paying for.
If you want to access the feature for free (no monthly charges), Computerworld has posted a workaround: Use a widget to toggle the Wi-Fi hotspot on or off (circumventing the menu-level blocks from your carrier) or a third-party app such as Extended Controls.
See the updated article on turning your Android phone into a Wi-Fi hotspot for more details/links so you can share your mobile data wirelessly with your laptops/computers and tablets?for free via a workaround.
