Pets and More Pets ? Basic Responsibilities of a Dog Owner

Dogs are aptly dubbed as man?s best friends. The steadfast loyalty, the affection and the in inherent desire to protect the human family make dogs the most popular choice for a pet. Caring for a dog is one big responsibility. A person that wants to have a dog for a pet but does not have the time or is not prepared to take on the task of caring for a dog should get a stuffed dog toy instead. A dog owner has to be seriously committed to care for the pet during its life time. This means that abandoning a pet that is becoming a nuisance is not an option as a responsible dog owner would find ways to resolve the concern.

Human intervention was never needed by dogs in the wild. Modern day domesticated dogs would depend on the owner not only for their dietary, health and social needs. Aside from the nutrient-rich diet that is regularly provided for the pet, the owner would make sure that the pet is given vitamins and supplements. A dog owner would schedule a visit to the vet for general check up, worming and vaccinations to ensure that health concerns that will affect the health of the pet will be prevented.

A dog would need to have a safe environment as these animals especially the puppies would need the care similar to the care needed by a baby. Dogs that are not allowed to stay inside the home must be provided with adequate shelter. Exercise is very important for dogs thus owners have to provide the pet with regular opportunities to let off steam.

A responsible dog would make sure that the pet becomes a good canine citizen. This can be done by letting the pet undergo socialization and obedience training. Exposing the dog to new places and faces as well as to exciting situations is actually honing the dog?s social skills. Obedience training is one way of getting the dog to develop an even temperament.

Being social animals, dogs, would need love and attention from the owners. Bonding with the pet is a very important task of a dog owner. Grooming sessions would be good bonding moments and so is playing with the pet a few minutes each day. A dog no doubt will be a wonderful addition to the family but getting one must be carefully considered because dog ownership entails important responsibilities that must be done for the well being of the pet. Dogs can be a nuisance sometime thus anyone that is not committed to owning a dog must not get one as they are not toys that can be discarded once the owner gets fed up.
