The average annual percentage rate, or APR, for variable-rate credit cards edged up to 15.15 percent from 15.14 percent last week, according to Bankrate's latest survey of interest rates. A basis point is one-hundredth of 1 percentage point. The APR for fixed-rate cards stayed steady at 13.02 percent.

Chase Freedom and Discover cardholders can earn 5 percent cash back on home improvement purchases up to $1,500 from April through June. The cards offer accelerated earnings each quarter in specific spending categories. Chase Freedom customers can also get 5 percent back on restaurant and movie purchases during the same period.
