KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) - Soony Saad scored twice, his first goals in almost two years, and Sporting Kansas City moved into first place in the Eastern Conference with a 3-0 victory over shorthanded Toronto FC on Saturday night.
Claudio Bieler also scored for Sporting (9-5-6), which ran its unbeaten streak to five in front of a Sporting Park-record crowd of 21,126. Toronto (2-9-7), which played a man down after Reggie Lambe was given a straight red card in the 56th minute, is winless in its last four.
Saad put Sporting up 1-0 in the 21st minute, scoring from outside the area on an assist from Seth Sinovic, and made it 2-0 in the 51st with a putback of Graham Zusi's saved shot. They were his first goals in MLS since he scored on his league debut on Aug. 17, 2011.
Bieler scored in the 63rd, tapping in Benny Feilhaber's pass from point-blank range for his club-leading ninth goal of the season.
Jimmy Nielsen recorded his eighth shutout, moving him into a three-way tie for the league lead. It was the first time Sporting hadn't conceded a goal since a 1-0 victory at Houston on May 12.
