Strongsville City Council holding public hearing on sports complex rezoning

Strongsville City Council will be holding a public hearing on two local men?s request to rezone land on Progress Drive for a sports complex at its 8 p.m. July 15 meeting.

Strongsville residents Walt Rapacz and Jeff Zbydniewski purchased land behind Olympia Candy earlier this year with hopes to build a 22,000-square-foot sports complex, called the Strongsville Performance Sports Center.

But they ran into some zoning issues when the 2-acre parcel of they thought was zoned for General Industrial use was actually zoned for Commercial Services.

City Council President Mike Daymut said its not likely that council will vote on the ordinance at the meeting, but at a special meeting called for later in the month.

Council chambers are at 18688 Royalton Road.
